The company Virgin Galactic has reopened a total of 50 seats for its space tourism flights at $750,000 per person, CEO Michael Colglazier announced last Monday (30).
“With our first new spaceship preparing for its ground testing phase, it’s time to welcome more people into the Virgin Galactic community of spacefarers, which already includes more than 650 founding astronauts,” said Colglazier.
“We are opening a limited batch of 50 spaceflight expeditions, each priced at $750,000. These spaceflights will be added to our manifest immediately after we fly the current members of our founding astronaut community, many of whom have been anticipating their spaceflight for several years.”
Colglazier said the company would begin conducting four 90-minute trips to space per month, before increasing to ten flights per month in the coming years. Despite the already high ticket price, he warned that the cost will rise even further at some point in the future.
“We expect our prices to increase in steps in the short to medium term, and once this initial batch of spaceflight reservations is completed, we plan to retire sales at the $750,000 level,” Colglazier added.
It is worth noting that the current price for Virgin Galactic commercial spaceflights is about $100,000 higher than what the company charged in 2023, before pausing the program to focus on building its “SpaceShips,” spacecraft that will handle the company’s space tourism operations.
